Earthbound's music stands apart from other soundtracks for the same reasons its visual styles, gameplay, and story do. The game uses fewer examples of collage in the form of music unless one abstracts the idea of collage to encompass the entirety of music (which would be effectively pointless). For this section I'm just going to point out two examples of sampled sound in the game and then introduce a few remixes of Earthbound tracks. The New Age Retro-Hippie's song draws its influence from a Chuck Berry's song "Back in the USA" (which can be sampled here: Amazon.com) Another song, which I have been unable to find, uses the famous notes from the beginning of the Super Mario Bros song (which can be heard via this "fantastic" MIDI file: Super Mario Bros. Super Site Video game soundtracks have a special property that causes people to be drawn toward their remixability. The soundtracks for some games are equally as impressive as anything composed for an orchestra and remixers love to work with them for this reason. An amazing non-Earthbound related album is Time & Space: A Tribute to Yasunori Mitsuda done by OneUp Studios. Here's a sweet MP3 of the music in the town of Summers as done by the One Up Mushrooms. Featured here is a unique blend of instruments: Shane Harris (Trumpet), Chris Moore (Trombone), William Reyes (Nylon String Guitar), Nathan McLeod (Piano), Mustin (Bass), and Chris Strom (Drums). Summers MP3 Overclocked Remix also knows how to assemble some great remixes of video game music. I particularly love these: HotelRhumba(IWantToGoHome) by The Pancake Chef Bus! by Shadow
