My RPG Dilemma
By Bobby Bokista - 06.06.01
I currently have a dilemma. It's not just a small problem either, it's fairly important. It is something many of you may know. Most of us have gone through it at least
once and some of us have been through many many times. It's something I like to refer to as TOO MANY RPG'S SYNDROM. Now, as you may guess from the name of the disease, this
is what happens when you buy way to many RPGs for your own good. Some other types of games count as part of this if they take over 20 hours to beat (not including deaths and retries), but
RPGs are the number one cause of it. Take for example... me! I'm a normal person who leads a normal life. Or so I thought. I won a bit of money... and began spending it here and there
I soon noticed that here and there ended up being Funcoland most of the time (a store that deals in new and used video games). This is the place where my friends and I buy NES games.
So the problem is that I have at least 18 RPGs to beat and so little time to do it. This is why this site is going no where. It is the number one cause for me not posting.
What qualifies as an RPG I have to beat? I've bought it and have yet to play it, or have played it enough to where beating it is necessary. Take for example The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.
I got that game when it first came out, but it is too damn hard for me to beat. I hate how long it takes to go everywhere on the map before you have Epona the horse and I hate the tedious puzzles in it. Even the strategy
guide doesn't seem to help. But none the less, I have to beat it. I've owned it for long enough and I've gotten far enough to where I can't just give up. That's just not in the True Game Players Doctrine.
Here's the list of RPGs I need to beat and a small explanation of why I have yet to do so.
- Suikoden: I am working on this game currently. It is really awesome. A great Playstation game that retains the graphics of a Super NES game, but is on the large scale of something for an advanced system. You get a fucking
castle in it. It just doesn't get much cooler than that. I'll do a review on it when I beat it.

- Suikoden II: When I saw Suikoden II for sale at Blockbuster for 7 bucks, I was forced to buy it. I couldn't pass up a cheap sequel to a great game. This one is most likely on deck as far as Playstation game playing order is concerned.

- Chrono Cross: I wanted this game for ever. Ever since the day it came out I wanted it. I loved Chrono Trigger and consider it the best game ever. I got this one this past Christmas... but didn't have a Playstation to play it on. I had to wait for my
Playstation 2 before I could play PS games. I've played a decent portion of this game... maybe like 12 hours or so, but I stopped once Suikoden pulled me in. This I'll have to play after Suikoden II.

- Final Fantasy VII: What?!?! How could I have not already played and beaten this game?? I didn't have a Playstation folks. I was a diehard Nintendo-head up until the Era of the Pokemon. Don't get me wrong,
I like Pokemon and all... but it messed up Nintendo for good. I had this one on computer, but the graphics sucked cock. So I need to beat this pronto.

- Final Fantasy VIII: Same as above.

- Final Fantasy IX: Same as above. I'll play all three in order.

- Final Fantasy Legend: I borrowed this game from a friend for about a year or so... but I had to give it back... (fuckin' bastard, not letting me steal his stuff). So I bought it on my own and now have to build all the way up to where I was
when I last played.

- Final Fantasy Legend 2: I got this for Christmas as well and haven't played it much. No time. Not a high priority, but I want to play it.

- Final Fantasy Adventure: This badass GameBoy game is in my vault. I don't know why I stopped playing it. I played it a bunch in summer and then suddenly stopped. I need to pick it back up. Too many FF games, so little time.

- Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time: Now I don't really want to beat this, but I've put so much effort into it that there's no point in quitting now. It was (and always will be) basically the only RPG on N64 worth playing. I like the music, though!

- Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening: I never had a GameBoy Before GameBoy Color, so I had never played this one before. I got kinda far last summer... but was totally stuck. I need to pick it back up.

- The Adventure of Link: I bought this NES game, but haven't been able to play it. I need to though. As you can see... I have way too many games for my own good.

- Dragon Warrior I and II: I won't be gay and count this as two different games, since they're on the same pak. They play really well though. This is what I do while I'm in school and not doing anything. GameBoy is a thousand times more fun at school than at home.

- Revelations: Demon Slayer: This game is pretty cool. You go around collecting monsters to kill with. It's not like Pokemon, where you capture little cute creatures in a ball and they perform magic. No, these guys are ugly sons'a'bitches. They're... *gasp* ACTUAL MONSTERS! Now I
know this seems like a hard concept to grasp, being that it IS on a Nintendo system afterall... but it's true. I picked mine up new for $15, and if you see one around for that price, I say it's worth it. Crap, that reminds me. I have one more game to add...

The nineteenth RPG I have to play is...
- Pokemon Silver: It's a really good game, it just takes a long ass time. You move really slowly so getting around is often a pain. It's really big too, which confuses me since the map isn't very linear. It's fun though. I just need a strategy guide for it and I'll be set.

So as you see, I have tons to do and no time to do it. School is almost out, which is a godsend. I'll try to play every one of them... but I bet I'll get through five games this summer. That's just the way I work.
